Former Liverpool Striker Takes Charge of National Team

Bellamy Has Coached in Wales for Over a Decade

Former Liverpool striker Craig Bellamy has been named the new Wales manager, the Football Association of Wales (FAW) announced on Tuesday morning. The 43-year-old has been coaching in Wales for over a decade, most recently as manager of Cardiff City.

Bellamy played for some of the Premier League's biggest clubs during his career, including Liverpool, Manchester City, and Newcastle United. He also represented Wales 78 times, scoring 19 goals. Since retiring from playing, Bellamy has worked as a coach and pundit.

The FAW has been looking for a new manager since Ryan Giggs stepped down in November 2022. Bellamy is seen as a good fit for the role, given his experience in both playing and coaching in Wales.

Bellamy's first match in charge of Wales will be a friendly against Scotland on March 24th. His first competitive match will be a UEFA Nations League game against Republic of Ireland on June 10th.
