Keir Starmer Israel Stance

Keir Starmer's Labor Party Faces Division Amidst Israel-Gaza Conflict

Muslim MPs Express Concern Over Labor's Stance

Amidst the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, Labour Party leader Sir Keir Starmer has met with Muslim MPs to address growing tensions within the party over its stance on the Israel-Gaza war.

Calls for Ceasefire and Condemnation

Some Labour councillors have demanded that the party change its position to condemn Israel over the bombardment of Gaza. They have called for an immediate ceasefire and expressed concern over the humanitarian crisis in the region.

In response to these demands, Starmer has faced a major rebellion within his party. 56 Labour MPs voted for a motion calling for an immediate ceasefire, despite Starmer's opposition.

Muslim MPs Voice Disappointment

Meeting with Muslim MPs, Starmer acknowledged their disappointment with Labor's stance. He emphasized the party's commitment to human rights and expressed support for a ceasefire. However, he also defended Labour's long-standing support for Israel.

The meeting provided an opportunity for open dialogue and a better understanding of different perspectives within the party. Starmer is likely to face continued pressure from both within and outside Labour to clarify the party's position on the conflict.
