Early Life and Career

Daniel Wiffen, born July 14, 2001, is an English-born swimmer from Northern Ireland who has made a remarkable journey from a pre-teen extra in "Game of Thrones" to an Olympic gold medalist in the 800m freestyle.

Olympic Glory

On Tuesday, June 30, at the Paris La Defense Arena, Wiffen became the first athlete from Northern Ireland to win an Olympic gold medal in 36 years. He held off a late surge from American Bobby Finke, setting a new Olympic record in the process.

A Thrilling Final

The 800m freestyle final was a nail-biting affair, with Wiffen and Finke pushing each other to the limit. Wiffen ultimately emerged victorious, taking gold by 0.56 seconds.
